You're a Trout!

For a trout to thrive it needs to consume more energy in food than it expends seeking it. Efficiently catching food will see Trutta gain condition and grow in size. Recklessly expending energy will lead to a loss of condition or worse!

Choose a location and start a game, then grow Trutta as big as you can as quickly as you can.

Move Trutta by tapping on the screen to set a destination. You can't set a new destination while Trutta is busy jumping.

Drag or swipe to explore the game location. You can only explore the location while Trutta is stationary.

Gaining Energy

Trutta gains energy by eating food. Trutta will eat things that touch its mouth and spit out things that aren't food.

Each location displays the food items available there. Each item displays its energy value in a circle colored according to its relative value in that location.

Expending Energy

Trutta expends energy at lower rates while stationary, moving downstream with the current, or behind a rock out of the direct current. If game data overlays are on regions out of the direct current will be highlighed while Trutta is positioned within them.

Energy is expended rapidly while jumping or moving upstream against the current.

Growth

Trutta progresses through stages of growth by gaining condition before increasing in size. There are four states of condition at each of five sizes. Condition starts at fair (the second state) at each size.

Trutta will move to the next stage of growth when its energy reaches the level required. If its energy level drops below the minimum required to sustain the current condition then Trutta will lose condition. If it drops below the minimum level needed to sustain poor condition (the first state) then the game is over!

Records & Achievements

Results for each location are ranked by the largest size and best condition reached in a game played there; then by the time taken to reach that size and condition; then by the total energy expended up to that time (lower is better); and then by the total energy intake up to that time (higher is better). The best three results for each location are displayed in Records.

An achievement is awarded when its goal is accomplished. Access to a locked location can be gained by accomplishing the linked achievement. Each achievement is displayed in Achievements showing its goal, state of accomplishment, and any links it has to a location.

The rate at which Trutta is currently expending energy is shown on the upper half of the meter pane.

Trutta's stage of growth is shown in the middle of the meter pane. Each position indicates size and the radius at each position condition.

Time, Totals, & Positions

The data pane displays elapsed time on the left, total energy intake on the upper right, and total energy expenditure on the lower right.

The positions bar displays the position of the screen's view into the location as a gray bar and the relative horizontal positions of other items in the location as follows: Trutta as a white bar; the destination (if set) as a white dot; and food items as dots colored according to their relative energy value.
